Philippines’ Pork Production and Consumption to Increase in 2025
African swine fever situation expected to improve in the second half of 2025
While domestic pork production is forecasted to reach 1.06 million metric tons (carcass weight equivalent, CWE), a nearly 2% increase compared to the 2024 estimate, total output will still remain below pre-African swine fever (ASF) levels until 2025. The disease situation is expected to improve in the second half of 2025, but the Philippines continues to face ASF outbreaks in all three regions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, which are limiting herd rebuilding and pork production in late 2024 and early 2025.
Pork consumption in the Philippines in 2025 is projected to rise by 2% to 1.58 million metric tons (CWE). Economic growth and population increase will support higher consumption, although this will be restrained by overall inflation.
Pork imports are expected to reach 510,000 metric tons (CWE) in 2025, a more than 6% increase from 2024. Ongoing challenges with animal disease, strong economic growth, and the projected population increase will drive import demand. Department Order No. 3 (DO No. 3), which expands access for Brazilian exporters to ship pork to the Philippines, also contributes to the forecasted rise in pork imports in 2025.
